WOMEN AND CHILDREN COLLECTING DIRTY WATER.

Project in Village Kangamaliteny

It is in Kaeris Ward, a region within Turkana County, Kenya.

Kangamaliteny, reflects the harshest of realities for the Turkana people. You can easily be brought to your knees while listening to the stories of the women here. When we arrived in Kangamaliteny the situation was worse than we could ever imagine. The women and children we found walking 25 miles round trip in order to get water. Before this we thought such a journey in this environment for water to be impossible. They would begin their journey at around 10 Pm and walk all through the night to the nearest village with a functioning water well. They would return after two days. But in reality some would never return. Death from exhaustion was a regular occurance. At one point while we were there these conditions resulted in the deaths of 10 women and children in a single day. Food was so scarce that these journeys were often being made on stomachs that had not seen food in days. Nursing women were no longer producing breast milk and would come home to find sick children had perished due to lack of water while waiting for their mothers to return home.

The local witch doctor was more than ready to welcome us and received us well and gifted us some land that the locals then began to hastily build us some basic shelters to make into our home. Immediately we began the work of introducing them to the one who brought us there in the first place, Jesus the Christ. The villagers accepted him very openly, giving us an opportunity to share his teachings from day one. We were able to witness their growth and their love for Christ on a daily basis. The witch doctor soon began bringing the many issues in the village to us to solve as she slowly began to put her faith in Christ.

Kangamaliteny was different from other places and the work there happened very quickly, not only was the church brought up in a rapid manner but by the end of two months of our first arrival in the village the drilling machine was able to make its way out to these suffering people. And in less than 48 hrs we had found water and a few days later they had a functioning well. The suffering for these people has been brought to a glorious end and all of us here believe it has much to do with their incredible faith and for the generosity they showed our Lord’s servants. Our relationship with these people has only really begun and we have not gotten to spend as much time with them as we would like. And I aim to correct that in the weeks to come. I believe many disciples are awaiting us in this village and we look forward to bringing them up as God wills it.

But as for now the people of Kangamaliteny enjoy short walks to a clean source of water and we look very forward to see what God has in store for these incredible people.
